Every guest to our Naples salon is special to us, and we go to great lengths to ensure that your visit is personal, non-rushed and rewarding. This look is a bit more diverse in color as it plays around with a variety of shades from the same color family, almost similar to getting a combination of highlights and lowlights. The technique adds in color both lighter and darker than the starting shade for a special effect, giving you ribbons of depth andcolor through your strands. Brunette hair can really stand out, and blondes can get a nice pop of dimension with lighter and darker shades of their natural colors being deftly woven into their strands.

21 Apartment Interior Design Tips to Love Where You Live

interior design apartment

Many interior decor stores sell intricate and colorful doorknobs that could be just what your modern apartment design needs. Apartments may be smaller than ever, but they can still pack a stylish punch. So long as you implement small apartment design tricks and trust your style sense, you can also decorate a swoon-worthy small apartment.

Best Colleges with Interior Design Degrees in the Los Angeles Area

Invest in lamps to place on end tables, nightstands, and occasional tables. Position floor lamps to illuminate dark corners and hang plug-in sconces in hallways or above sofas. Plug-in undercabinet lighting will give your kitchen work areas new life and make cooking easier. Use colorful garden stools as impromptu coffee tables or bedside tables. These relatively lightweight pieces can be moved from room to room and are much easier to carry up apartment stairs than a bulky table. Look for a color or finish that coordinates with several spaces in your home so they can be used in multiple ways and always look like they fit right in.

Decorating expert Eddie Ross is a pro at giving small spaces big personality. Watch as he shares the small apartment decorating ideas he used to make his own home look fabulous. Embrace these inspiring ideas and customize them for your own decorating needs. Older buildings may have character, but some original elements can get in the way of your best apartment decorating ideas. Rather than cringe at something you don't like, embrace it and find a workaround.

Once you know the dimensions of each room, you can start planning a furniture layout. This will help you determine how much furniture you need and where it should go.

Install Window Treatments

In designer Charlie Ferrer’s Manhattan studio apartment, a curved sofa tucks conveniently into a nook in the small living room while a cocktail table, in turn, nests into the sofa. This space-saving layout allows for unencumbered views of the charing fireplace. Shelving that traces the perimeter of the room, meanwhile, draws the eye upward while allowing Ferrer to display his collections. If you're using bold colors, keep the rest of the room as neutral as possible. Pair bright walls and furniture with earthy or white-colored rugs and accessories to soften the space. Good lighting can transform a room; its source shouldn't only be a hardwired ceiling fixture.

Create an Open Closet

Bring furniture into your bathroom to add function and style, especially when the bathroom has a pedestal sink. A slender table with a drawer can be used for storage and as extra counter space. Anchor a furniture arrangement with a simple neutral rug, and place a second statement rug on top. Arrange apartment furniture around the rugs for a cozy seating area. Stick to a two-color scheme and place the colorful elements so the eye travels around the room.

Perfect Studio Apartment Layouts to Inspire

Some vintage apartment buildings have gorgeous built-ins, ideal for storing necessities. If your apartment doesn't, fake the look by adding a wall unit or bookcase that reaches almost to the ceiling. If allowed in your building, install moldings around the tops of the shelves to reinforce the built-in look. Nothing shows you're adulting like window treatments that aren't made of paper or plastic. Design firm ETC.etera opted for striped Roman shades, but flowing curtains could also do the trick. Either way, the right window treatments will make your space feel more polished (and enable you to sleep in!).

We talked above about zoning spaces within apartments, particularly ones with larger, open-plan spaces. Above, you can see how the living space is divided from the kitchen with a sofa, backed by a console table. Decorating an apartment needs to be done with more forethought than you would apply to a whole house. This 700-square-foot apartment in Italy already featured great bones and plenty of light—it just needed some spatial differentiation. Here architect and furniture designer Alessandro Preda designed a sheet-rock partition to conceal the bed.

Essential pieces in a balanced living room include the sofa, coffee table, walls, and the TV cabinet. When you consider a couch, for instance, you’ll think of possible throw pillows. But in the greater scheme of things, these accents should match those on the wall, coffee table, and cabinet. As your first step, get acquainted with modern apartment design ideas. Swoon-worthy online interior design images will certainly inspire you to perfect your modern home design.

Finally, floor-to-ceiling furniture and decor, like curtains or shelves, can make a room feel taller than it is. The studio apartment layouts below show how easy it is to work with what you have and successfully decorate a small space. The possibilities are limitless—even with a shortage of square footage. Using room dividers, multi-functional furniture, and storage systems, you can create both designated spaces and hidden places to stash everyday and occasional items. Small apartment decorating ideas on a budget require a little creativity and ingenuity, especially if you want your deposit back.

Mix frames of different colors and borders around your couch to encourage conversation and add personality. But by using color blocking to design your apartment, you can create distinct functional areas. A splash of paint on the walls behind a desk in a living room, for instance, will visually separate the nook from a nearby sitting area. Essential furniture is a must, but can quickly become pointless in your modern apartment design if it is too big. Save yourself frustration and heartache by noting your home’s wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling measurements when starting to design your apartment. Some entryways are too slim for some furniture items to get through.

Romcoms of the early aughts don’t come much more iconic than 2004’s 13 Going on 30. California State University-Long Beach offers 1 Interior Design degree programs. In 2022, 35 Interior Design students graduated with students earning 35 Bachelor's degrees. In 2014 he was published in The Wall Street Journal for a modern concrete house, built to fight fires. In 2015 his Wellness Center was featured in Riviera and San Diego Magazine. In 2015 and 2018 he has had homes included in the USGBC United Stated Green Building Council Home Tours.

Hanging several sets of draperies along a wall is an apartment-approved way to give your space personality without the permanence of wallpaper or paint. It also gives the illusion that windows are hidden behind the draperies rather than just an expanse of blank walls. Not only will a headboard and/or bed frame serve as a focal point in your bedroom, but it'll be a major upgrade from putting your mattress directly on the floor.

Keep a large basket nearby for extra linens to make the transition from sofa to bed easy. Simplicity in layout and color scheme can often be best in smaller spaces, as proven in this tiny New York City bathroom designed by Shawn Henderson. This formula (pretty shelves, matching hardware, and simple, high-end accessories) is also always an easy win in a rental. High-end brackets that match the hardware and other surfaces will keep it feeling consistent. Start by considering the main elements in your living room individually but also think of how they fit together.

front yard dry river bed landscape design

If your garden has a slope, take advantage of it by constructing terraces along the dry river bed. Not only does this design add dimension and visual interest, but it also prevents soil erosion. Plant different varieties of flora on each terrace to create a beautiful layered effect that is sure to impress. Bring a slice of the Mediterranean to your backyard with a dry river bed inspired by the coastal regions. Choose vibrant succulents, olive trees, lavender, and rosemary to line the banks of your dry creek bed. The combination of arid landscaping and lush greenery will transport you to the sun-soaked coasts of Southern Europe.

Trim back plants that may encroach on the designated area. This will help maintain the clean and tidy appearance of your dry river bed. Proper drainage is crucial for the success of a dry river bed. Ensure that water can flow freely through the bed and away from your garden to prevent pooling or erosion issues. Grade the bed accordingly, and consider incorporating gravel or perforated pipes beneath the surface to aid in water movement. Get ready to unleash your creativity and transform your garden with these essential dry river bed landscaping tips.

These DIY Dry Riverbed Landscaping Ideas will accentuate your yard, adding an extraordinary appeal to the place!

In this case, you can use more expensive rocks such as marble. White marble is used as the water channel alongside pea gravel. A dry stream is made of a blend of white and gray river rocks. Succulents and cacti substitute for moss and shrubs that would have been found in a forest riparian zone. River rocks are set on their side to create the illusion of water rushing downstream. Some creek beds are more about fun than function.

They can help with erosion and those areas of the yard that never dry out. Start by assessing the size and scope of your river bed. Larger areas will require more materials and possibly professional help, which will increase the cost. Finally, before digging, check with local utilities to ensure you don’t disturb any underground lines. This critical step ensures that your project not only enhances the beauty of your property but does so safely. Create an amazing rock fountain to give your yard a makeover with this DIY tutorial here.

DIY Dry Creek Bed

Why waste the area where the lawn meets the fence? Replace it with a dry creek bed like this DIY and add amazing beauty to your home. Create an eye-catching, water-diverting dry river bed for your yard and watch your drainage woes disappear. Here’s another dry creek bed that looks beautiful but also helps prevent water accumulation. This one, by @southernlandscapegroup, is in Forest, Virginia which receives 43 inches of rain per year on average.

I often like to add a fancy fountain along the way. If you’re aiming for a warm-looking dry creek, opt for a mixture of tan and gray rocks. I’ve also found that planting colorful flowers on the side makes for a picture-perfect dry creek bed. River cobbles come in many different sizes and shapes.

A dry creek bed manages a common landscape challenge—drainage—with an easy-does-it approach that fits most budgets. In some situations, a dry creek bed simply directs and disperses water that would typically puddle and stand for a few days. In other cases, a dry bed transforms into a temporary stream. In the process, it adds beauty to the setting, whether wet or dry. Create a serene and inviting space for contemplation and relaxation with a dry river bed inspired by traditional Japanese tea gardens.

Searching for dry creek bed landscaping ideas along road? A dry river bed is a trench or a gully lined with stones, rocks, and pebbles. Gardeners often decorate a dry creek river with logs, branches, clay pots, and even miniature bridges. I also like to spruce up my designs with my favorite plants and a variety of colored rocks.

Why settle for a simple dry river bed when you can add a touch of whimsy with a charming bridge? Imagine strolling across a small wooden bridge, gracefully spanning your dry creek bed. Not only does it serve as a functional element, but it also becomes a focal point that adds character and invites exploration in your garden. Not only does a dry river bed serve an aesthetic purpose, but it also offers practical benefits. It helps with proper drainage, preventing erosion, and managing rainwater runoff.

This design evokes the serenity of the seaside, complete with the soothing sound of imaginary waves crashing against the rocks. This picture shows that you can personalize your dry river bed with beautifully colored glass or stones. That applies to this dry creek bed landscaping. This dry creek bed shows the growth of plants at very random intervals. The garden feature also keeps the landscape’s natural look intact. The stones have different forms, dimensions, and shades.

Discover expert tips to take your dry river bed landscaping to the next level. Those are selections of wonderful dry creek bed landscaping ideas. If yes, this is one of the DIY dry creek bed landscaping ideas to try.

Picture this – a meandering dry river bed cutting through your garden, surrounded by lush greenery and strategically placed boulders. The gentle curves and carefully selected stones create a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. It’s the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy the soothing ambiance of your own private oasis. This DIY dry creek bed by @littlelifelonglearners helps with drainage, but that’s not what makes it special. They incorporated the creek bed design into their outdoor play space, separate the kids’ area from the rest of the yard. Along with that adorable wood bridge, the creek bed provides an additional fun place for kids to explore.

Moreover, the dry river bed gives the outdoor space a visual appeal. For this project, you’ll need stones in different shades of beige, gray, black, and brown, to achieve a flawless piece of art. River rock is a good choice for this project, too. I also like to line the dry creek bed with a few unique-looking stones to bring an artsy feel to my yard.

For more information, contact a local extension office. Follow this DIY for an amazing landscaping idea to create a curved dry stream. Check out this unique DIY Dry Riverbed Landscaping Idea of adding a bridge with a stone pathway and small rocks complementing the large stones.

It provides color and texture in a xeriscape yard, introducing a focal point and breaking up the design. When a sloped yard is at risk of tumbling or sliding down after a lot of rain, a dry creek bed is a great solution. Build the bed so it redirects water to a grassy or sandy area on the property to prevent erosion. Rocks of different sizes gives the bed a natural look and maximizes water carrying. If you live in a treed area with moist mucky trails, implement this dry creek bed landscaping idea.

To create visual interest, incorporate a mix of rock sizes, colors, and textures in your dry river bed. This variation adds depth and authenticity to your design. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.

If you are here to pull people in, it’s important that you create a user experience that makes them want to come back, and that gives you that edge,” she said. In addition to using local artisans and craftspeople in the actual makeover, High Design includes mid-episode field trips to see just how products sold in these stores come to life. Kim isn’t just a customer; she also knows the business. She spent most of 2017 working for a large, corporate company, starting as “the sales rep on the floor, and I worked my way up to assistant manager,” she told me. While these are struggling small businesses, Kim isn’t yelling at their owners.

One of her major challenges as a designer is that the stores must remain open during the makeover. I cannot close down operations while we are making them over. And the whole point is they are on the edge,” she said. As I told Kim when I interviewed her, I was surprised how much I loved High Design, but only because I’m not a customer. There have been other reality shows in this space, like Netflix’s Cooking on High, but I think the people on screen are having more fun than I am watching them. What Kim is buying is pot, in one of the 19 states that have legalized its recreational use, and she’s now turned her experience into terrific reality TV that also breaks new ground.

reality TV recaps

What makes a designer a "true Design Star," exactly? While the network is keeping the challenges top secret, it did share a few details of what we can expect. Competitors will be tasked with a series of tests, such as delivering ingenious solutions for multi-functional rooms, designing for unique "upcycled" home spaces, and (oh yes!) creating a DIY video for Tik Tok. That's one challenge you didn't see in the original series. Each week, the remaining contestants participate in an interior design challenge such as designing a living space with a specific purpose (bedroom, livingroom, garage) or creating a space in an empty room, using unconventional items from a pet store, mechanics store, or a discount store.

Season 8

Ten aspiring designers seek to impress home viewers and an expert judging panel with their design expertise, ingenuity, creativity and "it" factor during the reality competition, HGTV Design... Pottermore Publishing, the global digital Wizarding WorldTM publisher, and Audible today announced a brand-new co-production of the original Harry Potter stories, revisiting the beloved listening experience for the first time ever. Scheduled for late 2025, these full-cast audio productions will bring these iconic stories to life as never heard before, offering immersive audio entertainment through high-quality sound design in Dolby Atmos, stunning scoring, a full range of character voices, and real-world sound capture. Each week, the competitors will tackle special design challenges "that are specifically engineered to test the skills required to be a true Design Star," as HGTV notes.

The eleven remaining designers design white rooms. This was Clive Pearse's final season as host, and two new judges (Olson and Gorder) joined the panel. The show is hosted by Allison Holker Boss of So You Think You Can Dance while design icons Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk judge the competitors each week. So I'm going to call my show Oh my Goddard.

That limited what Kim and the production crew was able to do, from changing the floor plan (which is prohibited in Colorado) to organizing the products. The rules and regulations make the business complicated—and that means the actual stores get neglected. It’s really complex, the business, and the last thing on their mind is the retail environment,” she said. Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk are two of the show’s judges for 2021.

And much like you would go to a city and try all those food spots, you can have a more exciting road trip. Your fun doesn't have to stop — from just like maybe you plan some little sightseeing things, but once you turn in for the night, usually you just want, like, a cheap accommodation, and then moving on to the next day — just got to recharge your battery. So I thought it would be fun to just play with the journey of the experience or the experience of the journey. I really, really wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I think it's kind of important to kind of tear yourself down and start over, you know, as a designer and a creative. I mean, I — but everything came back to me really fast.

The designers are given a specified amount of time and cash to create their designs, sometimes working alone and sometimes in teams. The writing here is the start of a conversation, and reality blurred values your contributions to that conversation. We’ve created a community that connects people through open and thoughtful conversations about the TV we’re watching, the pop culture we’re consuming, and the stories about it. And just a true love letter to Memphis and my love of Memphis and everything that's here. The two finalists must each redesign a room in a Harlem brownstone while shooting a pilot episode for their proposed HGTV series. The seven remaining designers design a wedding reception. The eight remaining designers design dream kitchens.

Okay, a lot has changed over the last six months, but my husband and best friend had to convince me to do it. "No, you got to go. You're not going to get this opportunity again." To share our perspectives and exchange ideas in a welcoming, supportive space, there are rules for commenting here. By commenting below, you confirm that you’ve read and agree to those rules. On top of that are very specific regulations that vary from state to state, and violations can carry huge fines—thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

I mean, it had been 20 years since I had painted or wallpapered or done anything other than points or all designer managed, so it was, it was very humbling, but it came back to me like riding a bike. I think everybody looked at me and probably didn't think I was going to make it past the first one, but I hung in there, and everything just kind of came right back to me. The growing catalogue offers Audible listeners more than 40 cinematic listening experiences—and offers Audible creators another powerful tool for entertainment and innovation. Each of the seven English language audiobooks will be released sequentially for a global audience, and will sit alongside and complement the iconic single-voice English language recordings by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry. The Harry Potter audiobooks were first published in 1999 and have been unprecedented in their popularity since they launched on Audible in 2015, with 1.4 billion global listening hours now reached.

There will be a rotating panel of celebrity judges featured on the new series who will help determine the fate of the designers. I wasn't pitching myself, but they were approaching me. I’m Andy Dehnart, and I created reality blurred 23 years ago as a blog to collect interesting links I found about reality TV. The contestants will fight each week to prove they are the strongest designer as the huge prize includes $50,000 in cash and their own show on the network. All reality blurred content is independently selected, including links to products or services.

So [it'd] be great if you guys could just come along for it. So that's how I pitched my show to the producers. Allison Holker Boss of So You Think You Can Dance fame hosts while design icons Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk judge competitors on their work. Plus, some familar HGTV faces (does Jasmine Roth or Jonathan Scott ring a bell?) will appear throughout the season to help guest judge the competition's weekly challenges. Reality blurred is your guide to the world of reality TV and unscripted entertainment, with reality show reviews, recommendations, analysis, and news. It was created in 2000 by Andy Dehnart, who's still writing and publishing it today.

“We are the first cannabᎥs design makeover show,” she told me. 1 In the fourth episode, the designer with the worst design in the clients' eyes would be eliminated outside of the judging panel. The worst design was Teran's, and so he was cut. The contestants compete for their own design show on HGTV, which follows the format of The Next Food Network Star on sister channel Food Network. Each week, the judges decide whom to eliminate; and, in Seasons 1-4, Clive Pearse would tell the contestant(s) who had been eliminated, "Your show has been cancelled...please exit the studio."

That was kind of like OMG; this is all the stuff that really happens behind the scenes, because creatives don't get a lot of credit. Also, it's kind of bittersweet, because we would want to share that experience with all the people, because we became so close with all our castmates. So it was a real high and a real low, because we all want to compete against each other, and we all want each other to win, I think, in the end. So it was a big relief and it was just super exciting. Kim recognizes that filming High Design and doing the work isn’t easy. “It’s me bringing in a team of people … that are massively disruptive.

I felt more creative, more energized, and more excited about the creative process after I got home. So it was something that I will never, ever regret doing. And I was like, "Dean? Show?" It took a while to register, but it's like, "Oh, okay." And that was August. It took months for it to really come to fruition, so when it happened, I was like — and by that time, I didn't even know if I still wanted to do the show.

By working together, they have been able to ensure that the restoration projects adhere to the highest standards and reflect the true essence of Poe’s era. Inside the house, restoration efforts have focused on recreating the atmosphere that Poe himself would have lived in. The furniture, decor, and even the wallpaper have been carefully selected to mirror the aesthetics of the early 19th century. This attention to detail allows visitors to step back in time and experience the environment in which Poe wrote some of his most famous works. The Poe House and Museum is not just a place for history buffs and literature enthusiasts.

After that, patrons are free to enter the tiny cottage. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m not a Poe scholar; I certainly was even less of one before I visited the Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. However, I was eager to learn about the man. And trust me when I say, there are few people more fascinating to learn about.

Fundraising events and campaigns have been instrumental in securing financial support for the preservation efforts. These events range from charity auctions featuring Poe memorabilia to fundraising galas that celebrate the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. The support from the community and Poe enthusiasts has been overwhelming, ensuring that the Poe House remains a treasured destination for generations to come. Noren curtains are a type of traditional Japanese curtain that can add a touch of culture and art to a Zen interior. These curtains are typically hung in the doorway, serving as a barrier while also allowing air to circulate freely. Many Noren curtains feature intricate designs and patterns, providing a beautiful focal point for any room. From its locally quarried stone foundation to its zinc-coated copper roof, the cottage was inspired by its surroundings. It is designed to be a relaxing getaway with few distractions from the sea and surrounding nature. The archways progress throughout the interior, leading residents from one room to the next.

What you’ll love about Asian Zen interiors:

Authentic Japanese furniture, such as low-slung tables and floor cushions, can also enhance the Zen atmosphere of a room. These pieces are designed to be functional and comfortable, allowing one to relax and enjoy the present moment. They are often made from natural materials like bamboo and offer a touch of understated elegance. Japanese Zen philosophy also emphasizes purity, simplicity, and tranquility—a focus that has spread to guide modern design around the world. With open floor plans that bring in natural daylight, serene colors and textures, and an emphasis on the outdoors, these projects feel like oases in the modern world. Yuen says cultivating a Zen-like living space is about more than stripping away color and ornamentation.

Kohei Owatari’s Top Plant Choices for Zen Gardens in Southern California

When the sun goes down, opt for dimmers to create the effect of sunlight to keep the harmonious mood going. You need to make sure all the different elements come together well and don’t overwhelm each other. You want your furniture, colors, and layout to feel even and cohesive. If you do it successfully, it will be a place where you can let go and relax. The practice of Zen Buddhism focuses on meditation and a minimalist way of life.

Balance and Harmony

This modern dining room is designed with a low table and four-floor chairs without legs. The sword lamp, a bonsai tree on the table and tatami mat on the floor make this Japanese style zen house design authentic yet fashionable and edgy. Thanks to the minimalist decor it promotes, a zen home is simplistic yet comfortable and functional. The ultimate aim is to bring balance into your life and enjoy the present moment with harmonious interiors that avoid clutter and allow each room to breathe. There are no bright or dramatic colors, and the decor is not attention-grabbing.

While it's up to you to decide what wakes up your senses, don't overlook the importance of adding little sensory touches while creating your zen hideaway. The ideal zen home should appeal to the senses and stimulate inner peace and growth. According to Quiet Minimal, little touches are all it takes to transform your zen home into a tranquil haven. While some add-ons are personal, like your favorite music or scent, others work for almost everyone. For example, relaxing background melodies have a guaranteed calming effect.

In the Muromachi era (1336–1573), the Ashikaga shoguns spearheaded an artistic resurgence that supported the Zen priesthood. The capital, Kyoto, became the center of impressive temples such as Kinkaku-ji, a three-story pavilion partly covered in gold leaf that glistens under the sun. Karesansui, or rock and sand gardens, reached their zenith in the late 15thcentury with Ryoan-ji. This Zen garden sets 15 stones in groups over coarse white sand, in a purely abstract composition. The effect is deceptively simple, yet invokes a deep meditation in the viewer.

Embrace the tranquility of Zen design and discover how it can elevate the overall ambiance of your living space. Japanese Zen interiors also make ample use of natural materials like wood and stone. These materials bring a sense of warmth and earthiness to the space, connecting us more closely with nature. Smooth pebbles and stones, for instance, can serve as accents in a room, while wooden flooring and walls can add character and depth. Once you have your color schemes, it’s time to think about your furniture. According to The Spruce, experimenting with layers and soft fabrics will create a pleasing look.

Instead, it's all about creating a subtle play of touches, lines, and tones. If you don't have the space to create a separate work area, mingle it with the rest of the interiors. You can set your desk in a concealed corner or empty spot (via LJ Hooker).

This is your chance to create the ripple effect that evokes the feeling of an ocean. While this seems almost deceptively simple, master garden designer Kohei Owatari emphasizes that everything within a Zen Garden must in fact be very well-designed. One must take into account the surrounding nature that already exists and choose each element with care.

Ofuro baths are designed for soaking and relaxation, promoting overall health and well-being. Constructed from woven straw mats, these rooms are comfortable and cozy, making them ideal for relaxation and meditation. Tatami mats also function as natural air filters, absorbing excess moisture and purifying the air. Architect Charlie Lazor designed this peaceful, lakeside prefab in Ontario, Canada with a Japanese-style bathroom, clad in teak, with a matching tub and sink by Bath in Wood. Fujita embraces indoor/outdoor living with high ceilings and full walls that open to the outside. An overall industrial feel is tempered by walls of oak cabinetry, fabricated by MOAA.

Finish up with a black freestanding tub and add some candles with calming aromas like vanilla, lavender, or jasmine to create an inviting and comforting oasis. Of course, while zen interior design heavily emphasises natural hues and shades, that doesn’t mean you have to avoid all colour. Muted shades of bright colours such as red and blue can help to ground your home against the lighter colour scheme of your interior design. Zen interior design is a design style that focuses on the art of minimalism and simplicity. It often features organic materials and natural light to create a clutter-free home that is relaxing and thought-provoking. Minimalist Scandinavian design has become increasingly popular in recent years, drawing inspiration from both Japanese Zen and traditional Nordic aesthetics.

Clutter is discouraged, and hidden storage solutions are employed to maintain a clear, organized environment. Zen design often incorporates rhythmic wooden structural frames, sliding screen doors, and internal courtyards to further instill a sense of minimalism. Indoor water features like fountains and pools can also enhance the Zen atmosphere of a space. The sound of running water can promote relaxation and calm the mind, while the natural element adds a touch of tranquility and serenity to the interior. In addition to visual elements, natural scents can also contribute to a Zen interior's ambiance.

Raking patterns and lines into sand is a famous Zen habit to bring some peace and clarity whenever you feel like you can’t control your worries. They’re extremely important for this style thanks to their calming effect, both because they provide oxygen and because they can reinforce your palette with soothing greens. While high-maintenance flowers that can distract you with their scents aren’t particularly popular with Asian Zen interiors, plants are key. Before focusing on the characteristic features of Asian Zen interiors, there’s an important point that we want you to keep in mind.

Kari’s team includes several premier architects in LA, engineers and contractors, and key Southern California wholesale contacts in the textile, appliance, and furnishings industries. Here’s an example of Platinum Gold flagstone Kohei used to cover an accent wall in the front yard of one of his Japanese Garden design projects. The beautiful stone privacy screen is also the backdrop for this project’s house numbers – another example of combining form with function. He avoids lighter boulders for his Southern California Zen Gardens because they tend to reflect sunlight and become too bright to enjoy.

It fully embraces vibrant and bright shelves that help to make the room pop. Of course, this is complemented by the white walls and wooden floors – which help to tone down the colour of the room so that the design does not look too excessive. Zen focuses on the concept of natural simplicity that has been elevated to become a form of art.
