The village is served by St. Charles District 303 in its south and west portions and by Elgin Area School District U-46 in its central, north, and east portions. U-46 serves an area of some 90 square miles in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties. Wayne has its own elementary school, Wayne Elementary, part of U-46, serving 600 children in grades K-6 from Wayne and surrounding communities. West of Illinois Route 31, the road loses the Illinois Route 62 designation and becomes a county highway that continues west to Illinois Route 47.

For a mile-long stretch between Harnish Drive and Corporate Parkway, near the village's malls, the road is six lanes wide with a landscaped center median with dual left turn lanes. Elsewhere, the road is four lanes wide with a striped median with single left turn lanes. The road connects Algonquin with Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills on the north and Carpentersville, Elgin, South Elgin, Geneva, and the rest of the Fox River Valley suburbs to the south. Algonquin's Public Art Program, which showcases pieces of artwork at prominent public locations in the village throughout the year. On September 11, 2020, the Court granted the United States’ motion to amend and denied the County’s motion to dismiss without prejudice. This waterside park is the site of Lions Fest, a yearly September festival in which Fox River Grove residents gather to converse and eat roasted corn. The lesser-known Arts & Crafts Fair is also hosted at Lions Park each July.

Architecture varies within the Village but there are several "New England" style homes. The Dunham Woods Riding Club is an active social and tennis club, with three dining rooms, two private rooms, a terrace, and a patio. The club hosts a variety of social events and private parties and is open February through December. Club members are primarily Wayne residents, as well as residents from neighboring communities such as St. Charles and Geneva. The castle has been rarely open to public tours, and for charity fund raisers. The house is again privately owned, having been sold in October, 2013 and in early 2016 started extensive renovation by its private owner with completion expected in 2021.

The interior has parquet floors, statues, tapestries, and copies of fine, French artwork. Light of Christ Lutheran Church, a Lutheran church affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, located on the west side of Hanson Road, just south of Algonquin Road. The church plans to build a new facility at the northeast corner of Sleepy Hollow Road and Longmeadow Parkway. Illinois Route 25 is a north-south road on the village's eastern side which ends at Illinois Route 62. It connects the village to Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, and the rest of the Fox River Valley suburbs to its south.

Because of the church's small congregation, St. John's did not support a resident priest. Instead, a Chicago-based priest would visit the congregation once a year; for the rest of the year, Bohemian-speaking members of the church would conduct services. While St. John's stopped hosting worship services in 1914, the cemetery remains open to this day.
