The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency referred this matter to us. During the economic prosperity of the 1990s, Fox River Grove experienced a housing boom. In 1994, 6 out of 7 of the village's trustees voted to allow a luxury housing development to be built on 62 acres within the 102-acre Picnic Grove—a stretch of land straddling the banks of the Fox River. Despite having the support of the Board of Trustees, the decision was deemed controversial by many members of the community. Housing Act by engaging in a pattern or practice of sexual harassment against tenants and housing applicants since at least 2005.
For much of the 20th century, Algonquin was a quasi-resort town and people from the Chicago area would visit the town in order to escape urban life. The Fox River offered immense recreational opportunities and several summer homes were constructed. In 1919, the village of Fox River Grove was officially incorporated, becoming the ninth village in McHenry County. From 1928 to 1933, the city witnessed a tax revolt, and the city was unable to meet payroll or provide relief efforts. The fiscal crisis was resolved by 1933, and at the same time, federal relief funding began to flow into Chicago. This fianl consent decree resolves allegations against the architect of the Verdesian, SLCE Architects, LLP. It provides for standard injunctive relief, a payment of $15,000 to compensate aggrieved persons, and a $30,000 civil penalty. The case was litigated by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The complaint alleges that the defendants terminated the tenancy of the HUD complainants because of the birth of their second child. At the time, the HUD complainants and one minor child had been renting their apartment unit from defendants for over a year. The complaint also alleges that the defendants’ Application Form, Lease Agreement, and correspondence with the HUD complainants state an explicit “No children” policy. On September 9, 2019, the United States filed a complaint in United States v. Prashad (D. Mass.), alleging a pattern or practice of sexual harassment in violation of the Fair Housing Act.
